Best Xbox One Games List – #47 Battlefield 4
Developer: EA DICE
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Xbox One Release Date: November 22, 2013
Battlefield 4 is a tale of two halves. The first comes from its disastrous, crippling launch and its failures to handle online play well into the Xbox One’s first year. The second comes from ongoing updates, a “never say die” attitude and hope for the future of the series.
Continuing the franchise’s undying mismanagement of single-player campaigns, Battlefield 4 thrives with multiplayer play. Its maps brought forth great advances to destructibility with the unfortunately titled “Levelution” mechanic. Here we are with an Xbox One launch title, and entire mega buildings could come crumbling down, creating massive destruction. Ongoing updates to the game went well beyond a traditional online FPS structure, with the Weapons Crate DLC and Night Operations expansion pack launching as free bonuses on May 26, 2015 and in September, 2015, respectively.
There’s a lot of trust that EA needs to build back with the Battlefield series, and Star Wars: Battlefront should help ease gamers’ minds a bit. However, the tail end of Battlefield 4 shows the company’s understanding of how badly they screwed up, and how they want to fix that for the future.
