Best Xbox One Games List – #14 Game of Thrones (Telltale Games)

Developer: Telltale Games

Publisher: Telltale Games

Xbox One Release Date: December 2, 2014 (Episode 1)

From epic books to grandiose television (not television; it’s HBO), the natural progression for Game of Thrones lied in video games. Telltale was a great fit for the rich narrative that the base story supplies, offering a better take than we’ve seen previously from Atlus. It focuses on the story of the Forrester family, once proud bannermen of the Starks. Now they sit between allegiance of the crown of King Joffrey and the desire for freedom against the new wardens of the North; the Bolton family.

The inclusion of HBO’s actors providing voices for their respective characters brings familiarity and charm to Game of Thrones as a choice-based narrative adventure. There’s nobody else that can play Tyrion Lannister, so having Peter Dinklage there makes it feel like you’re interacting with the actor. Playing either aggressive, passive, silent or playful has more weight, here, because of just how excellent the voice acting team is.

The value of your choices in a linear adventure continues to falter, however the rich story driven from the works of George R. R. Martin makes Game of Thrones a worthy adventure game.
