Best Xbox One Games List – #16 Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
Developer: Kojima Productions
Publisher: Konami
Xbox One Release Date: March 18, 2014
At the beginning of the Xbox One’s life cycle, it seemed like it would be forever before next-gen console owners would get a full new Metal Gear Solid game. To appease the fans (and make some hedge money), Konami pushed for Ground Zeroes to be released early, giving the community a taste of what to expect. It certainly succeeded, with Big Boss spending several hours at Guantanamo Bay’s Camp Omega in a sneaking rescue mission of both Chico and double agent Paz.
Besides the main mission, there was certainly a lot of love shared by Hideo Kojima. Ground Zeroes certainly demonstrated the power of the Fox Engine, throwing a bunch of missions together during different times of day and weather. Whether it be rain, snow, nighttime or day, each scenario reflected intuitive level design. You need to keep on your toes to avoid the multitude of guards at this prison facility, and the gameplay certainly adapts towards varying styles of aggressive and passive play.
While this may be Kojima’s penultimate title with Konami, he can certainly hold his head high with Ground Zeroes. “You might be able to erase the markings, but the memories will never disappear.”
