The idea of a Plants vs. Zombies game coming to the Xbox One only makes sense if you vastly change the formula. That’s what PopCap Games did with Garden Warfare, first coming on next-gen to the Xbox One. It was no longer strictly a tower defense title, but a multiplayer game that sees over-the-shoulder third-person action take places between more than just herbological and zombified life.

Players enjoy four competitive modes and one cooperative multiplayer mode. There is no single player mode, but you can engage in challenges to unlock level ups, upgrades, plus new characters, skins and clothing. No matter how you look or what plant/zombie you play, it’s the meld between genres that provides an interesting gameplay dynamic. Whether you’re on the offensive as a team or protecting your garden against oncoming waves, the multitude of different plant types and strategies provide an intriguing system at play. Plus, providing a ton of DLC content for free is always a plus.
