Best Xbox One Games List – #18 Far Cry 4

Developer: Ubisoft Montreal

Publisher: Ubisoft

Xbox One Release Date: November 18, 2014

If there’s one thing that Ubisoft Montreal knows how to do like clockwork, it’s to make an open world action game tick in its unique way. Such is the case with Far Cry 4, a first-person action-adventure game set in the Nepal-like fictional mountain lands of Kryat. Ajay Ghale comes home from America to spread his departed mother’s ashes throughout the country. Little did he know he would play a huge part in a movement set against the brutal dictator Pagan Min, portrayed brilliantly by Nolan North.

As cliche as it sounds, Kyrat is its own character within the plot, breathing life into the wild, random interactions the players encounter. You can take advantage of animal instinct by throwing meat at enemies to attract bears, bring a friend in to help you play through the game’s missions, fly around on a gyrocopter, take over strategic strongholds or embrace the vibrancy of the mountain ranges. The game adopts a more stat-progressing route by offering XP for completed missions, which upgrade the character’s abilities within stealth or aggressive combat maneuvers.

While there is so much to do, Far Cry 4 brings something new to the series with the civil war aspects of Kryat. With a great cast of VA talent (including Naveen Andrews from LOST), they convey the struggles of a dictator-led, war-torn country better than a frat boy protagonist ever could. The explosive, quick, fluid action of Far Cry 4 took the series to new heights. It will be interesting to see where the next step lies.
