Best Xbox One Games List – #38 Resident Evil: Revelations 2
Developer: Capcom
Publisher: Capcom
Xbox One Release Dates: February 24, 2015 (Episode 1), March 18, 2015 (Full Retail)
Despite selling well enough to satisfy Capcom, the mainline numbered Resident Evil series has decidedly shifted away from its hardcore survival horror aspects as of late. Resident Evil: Revelations 2 is a breath of fresh air, providing new gameplay experiences that benefit from a balance between servicing fans of the series and developing a lore from within.
The game is split into five episodes, each split into two gameplay halves. Claire Redfield and Moira Burton consist of one half, while Barry Burton and child Natalia serve as the other. Best enjoyed as a co-op experience, RE: Revelations 2 serves gameplay with one aggressive shooter and a support character for each team. This means that zombies, Uroboros-laden creatures and bosses have to be taken down as a team, complete with offensive and defensive strategy.
Characters’ skills and weapons can be upgraded to improve survival odds, while the engaging Raid mode continues the series tradition of adding run-and-gun minigames to the main package. It’s a lot more enjoyable to play with a friend, as the puzzle-solving becomes more engaging (and teaming up for combat is more entertaining) with a partner. It’s a shame that the AI doesn’t work as well for single players, though.
