An ongoing game development thought that has popped up a few times during the 8th generation of consoles is the idea of shipping the tools for players to create their own little game worlds. Perhaps the first such example for the Xbox One came in Project Spark, a simulation sandbox title that provides assets, ideas, concepts and gameplay options to players in order for them to come up with something on their own.

Project Spark can start with a blank slate or a pre-designed level that gives the players suggestions and options. Using either the controller or a SmartGlass device, you mold the personality of objects through the creator to tailor to what you want to create. You’ll want to develop upgrades and customization if a weapon is going to be used for an RPG, where making sure its physics reacts well within its environment is key when creating a shoot-em-up.
