Best PS4 Games List – #19 MLB 15: The Show
Developer: SCE San Diego Studio
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
Release Date: March 31, 2015
Baseball may not be America’s only pastime anymore, but on PS4, it’s certainly the shining example of excellence. While the previous year’s entry was SCE San Diego’s first foray with the PS4, 2015’s edition of MLB simulation baseball brought forth a multitude of improvements.
For the first time, players could transfer certain data from year to year, including MLB 14: The Show player data and in-game stubs currency. Authenticity came to the forefront, with vast improvements to lighting effects down to the point where the sun shined down at different angles throughout the year based on the real sun’s trajectory. You could now force balls to move across the field with directional hitting, and looking good while doing it with stat-boosting authentic athletic gear.
Online play is not 100% there yet, but it’s getting there. Multiplayer and online modes certainly got an upgrade, especially the card-based Diamond Dynasty mode. Logging in each day gets you free packs, while playing a bunch of baseball games also nets random cards, meaning monetization wasn’t too egregious. Seeing as all other competitors in the MLB simulation market cannot compete, there’s no better way to play baseball on a games platform than with MLB 15: The Show. It’s a sole reason certain dedicated fans of the sport pick up a PS4, too, bringing allure to Sony’s newest console.
