The original launch of Final Fantasy XIV, the second major MMORPG title from Square Enix in the Final Fantasy series, was an unmitigated disaster. While not reaching the levels of corporate destruction that Spirits Within brought to Squaresoft (who had to merge with Enix to get where we are today), it was a bad, expensive MMO at a time where the online gaming scene was starting to shift. A Realm Reborn has done a fantastic job by steering the ship back on course.

As with other MMO’s, A Realm Reborn has you pick your race, class and appearance based on preset limits based on the Final Fantasy properties. Once completed, you explore the magical world, earn EXP, compete against other players or against the environment in dungeons, raids and other PvP events, plus participate in global events. The game hosts a wonderful soundtrack, familiar enemies and with Heavensward, substantive expansions. With millions of subscribers, there’s finally another MMORPG that has stuck around with World of Warcraft this decade.
