Best PS4 Games List – #37 Nidhogg
Developer: Messhof
Publisher: Messhof
PS4 Release Date: October 14, 2014
Nidhogg has been a work in progress for a long time, first exhibited in its early stages in April 2010. Renown among circles in Indie games world, its 2014 release finally brought home a full single and online/offline multiplayer experience that shouts one statement: “En garde!”
Nidhogg is a side-scrolling two-combatant sword fighter within a pixelated environment. Played across four separate beautifully designed levels, the goal is to strike your opponent and run to the opposite side of the screen as quickly as possible. You can aim high, medium or low with a stab, and deflecting in specific directions on attacks can cause parries that knock your opponent’s weapon flying. They can, however, divekick at you and rip you asunder without a weapon, and can run faster, so be careful and plot your movements perfectly.
It’s the ultimate competitive Rock-Paper-Scissors-style fighting game there is, but benefits mostly from couch competitive play. The netcode is a bit lacking, unfortunately.
