Best Nintendo Games List – #2 Splatoon
Developer: Nintendo EAD Group No. 2
Platform: Nintendo Wii U
Release Date: May 29, 2015
If someone told you that Nintendo was developing a third-person shooter for kids and young adults this time two years ago, it would be unthinkable. However, Nintendo happened to go about it in the most Nintendo way possible, presenting a game where other players are obstacles in your ultimate goal; to paint the majority of a map’s surface with your color paint. It takes a tried and true genre and flips it on its head, and for Nintendo to do this as its own thing, as its own IP, is amazing.
Splatoon comes with a host of different multiplayer modes, including Splat Zones, Tower Control and Rainmaker that bring a personalized flavor to king of the hill and capture the flag-type modes. Splatfest events bring ongoing team-based challenges over weekends while periodic updates brought on a host of new maps, weapons, clothing options and more. Splatoon was built to last, and has quickly become a Nintendo staple that should look to return for future consoles.
