Best Nintendo Games List – #14 Pokemon Omega Red / Alpha Sapphire
Developer: Game Freak
Publisher: The Pokemon Company (Nintendo as distributor)
Platform: Nintendo 3DS
Release Date: November 21, 2014
There are enough changes in Pokemon Omega Red and Alpha Sapphire over their Gen 3 counterparts that their inclusion in this list is warranted. How can you not show support for the water-laden adventures of Hoenn, with years of “Hoenn confirmed” speculation building to a fever pitch? The basic Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen titles got a major facelift thanks to the engine transported from Pokemon X & Y, while powerful, almost legendary pocket monsters received modernized Mega Evolutions.
The result? A modernized version of Pokemon Red and Sapphire, one that features a revamped Pokedex to include logical evolutions of pocket monsters that were added in Gen 4, There are even new characters, events and details to maps, including a “controversial” amount of water in the water-based locations. Pokemon ORAS feels new while carrying the traditions of old, and that’s enough to excel.
