Best Nintendo Games List – #48 Resident Evil: Revelations
Developers: Capcom, Tose Co., Ltd.
Platforms: Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Wii U
Release Date: February 7, 2012 (3DS), May 21, 2013 (Wii U)
Capcom would never truly admit to screwing up the formula for a perfect Resident Evil experience, but Resident Evil Revelations was the start of the self-awareness process that saw the company skew backward towards what made the series great. Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine participating in their own separate experiences within a confined, creepy setting of a ghost ship while facing T-virus-affected monsters. There is an emphasis on making the most of your equipment, weapons, and ammunition. Puzzle solving remains key, while memorizing the correct path will save time.
More remarkable is the fact that Capcom continued the Resident Evil story first on Nintendo 3DS, with the PC and console ports coming more than a year later. It served to show the confidence in third-party support that the handheld has shown, at times. Resident Evil: Revelations, along with its sequel and remaster/remake announcements, are the glimmer of hope needed as Capcom tries to save the franchise.
