The 50 Best Nintendo Games Right Now (Wii U / 3DS)
Best Nintendo Games List – #31 Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth
Developer: Atlus
Publisher: Atlus
Platform: Nintendo 3DS
Release Date: November 25, 2014
While it is not rare for Atlus to craft an RPG title for a Nintendo handheld platform, Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth marks the first time a Persona game has made it away from a PlayStation device. It comes with a caveat; Persona Q combines the sensibilities, characters, and characterization of the Persona series with gameplay elements from another Atlus property; Etrian Odyssey. This results in an intriguing dungeon crawler that sets you up for the unexpected right from the Start menu.
Persona Q splits into the choice of one of two campaigns; that following the team from Persona 3 or Persona 4. Regardless of your choice, the narrative tailors to how you play in both Yasogami High and the challenging labyrinths. Instead of battling enemies with just on Persona per character, combat includes access to sub-Personas, adding a dynamic change with depth in the available skills provided. It plays like Etrian Odyssey, but with Persona 3 and 4 characters, while crawling through dungeons to optimize your party. A sub-sub entry into Megami Tensei, but an important leap for Nintendo, nonetheless.
