Nintendo has been tinkering with their classics as of late, with the biggest first leap into this realm coming with NES Remix. Both it and its sequel were packed together to create a compilation of 28 vintage Nintendo Entertainment System games, with each consisting of a number of challenges based on modern alterations of classic gameplay. For example, one might have three attempts to defeat a number of enemies on a Super Mario Bros. stage while invisible. Another challenge might be to go through a classic stage backward.

It’s the close to 400 different challenges that make the focus on bending and subverting gameplay expectations of titles we’ve known for decades. There’s a real challenge to some of them, and the fact that you have to earn victories to unlock content keeps you on your toes. Whether it’s on the Wii U or 3DS, NES Remix brings a new flair to classic games.
