WWE 2K24 one of the 10 best selling games of 2024

The champ is here. WWE 2K24 currently sits eighth among the 10 bestselling games of 2024, according to stats from market research firm Circana. Here's the rest of the list, made from data starting Dec. 30, 2023, and ending Aug. 3, 2024:

2. Helldivers 2

3. Call of Duty Modern Warfare III

4. Dragon’s Dogma 2

5. EA Sports MVP Bundle (CFB 25 and Madden NFL 25)

6. Elden Ring

7. MLB The Show 24

8. WWE 2K24

9. Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth

10. Tekken 8

This isn't just a case of a game selling because it has the WWE logo on it. WWE 2K24 holds a Metacritic rating of 81, or generally favorable. The series has come a long way since WWE 2K20 nearly put it on life support.

The Showcase Mode allows players to relive some of the greatest moments in Wrestlemania history, and unlock many of those legends for play in other modes. I have had a blast since I defeated "Macho Man" Randy Savage with Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat. I have taken Steamboat online to show some of these whippersnappers the world's deepest arm drag.

This roster gets even better with each DLC. Ok, every DLC except one. In the future, huge names such as Lex Luger, Jade Cargill, and Diamond Dallas Page will join the cast.

When these stories happen we talk a lot about competition in the space. Madden NFL succeeds in large part because EA's own college football game is the only serious competition it has had in a decade. AEW Fight Forever released June 2023 and sadly for wrestling fans, has failed to provide the WWE games with any competition in the space.

Despite having a developer with the pedigree of Yuke's, Fight Forever was not quite ready for the main event. If AEW and its resources can't make inroads, WWE games look to dominate this space for a long time.
