It is wild times in the fighting game world right now. Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui are going to join Street Fighter 6. Ghostface will appear in Mortal Kombat 1. And if a tease on Ronaldo's X is to be believed, apparently one of the world's most famous soccer players will join the roster of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.

Hey, why not? LeBron James is fighting the likes of Batman and Beetlejuice in Warner Bros. corporate synergy platform fighter Multiversus. It's kind of ridiculous, but that's the point. I enjoy the character so much.

There's a bit of basketball tradition there too. Michael Jordan and Shaquille O' Neal notoriously appeared in games that had nothing to do with basketball. Jordan opted for a superhero -style role in the forgettable Chaos in the Windy City. Shaq became a martial arts hero in Shaq Fu. He even took a second pass at Shaq Fu which was still really bad.

If there's one thing Ronaldo is doing right, it's jumping into an already well-established game franchise. Fatal Fury is one of the most beloved fighting game series in the world, hence Street Fighter 6 reaching out and licensing some of its characters.

A large part of the fun of fighting games is them celebrating different styles. Among the traditional martial artists there are always boxers, wrestlers, or even dancers such as Eddy Gordo. Why not a professional soccer player? And if you're going to add one, you can't do much better than Ronaldo, whose YouTube debut broke the Internet.
