MLB The Show 17 fully embraced legends of the past. The cover athlete of the game and the big new legend introduced in MLB 17 was Ken Griffey Jr. Griffey Jr. was unlockable through the Diamond program. You first had to complete different missions with other versions of Ken Griffey Jr., including a Rookie series, Breakout, All-Star, and Impact veteran versions of his cards. Once you completed those missions, you unlocked Griffey’s 99 overall Awards Series card based on his 1997 MVP season.

Griffey had 99/96 power vs RHP and LHP. But he also had over 90 contact vs righties at 95. His contact vs lefties was good, but not great at 70, but do keep in mind that this was pre-125 stats. He also had 71 vision. Griffey, of course, had great fielding and speed. He had 95 fielding with 91 arm strength and 80 speed. This was the first big-time legend MLB The Show introduced into the game. MLB 16 had guys like Chipper Jones, Ted Williams, Mike Schmidt, Nolan Ryan, and many more, but this was the first one many got extremely hyped for.
