See Paul Rudd sell Super Play Action Football in this classic Nintendo ad
By Brian Allen
Ok, Paul Rudd may actually have been trapped in the Quantum Realm at some point. Pop culture aficionados have unearthed a classic video of Rudd in a Super Nintendo commercial and he looks exactly the same.
That was 33 years ago, folks. Some quantum physics may really be happening where the Ant-Man is concerned. Commercials are where a lot of our movie stars got their start, and for those that grew up in the 80s and 90s many are video game commercials.
One of Jack Black's first acting gigs was in a Pitfall commercial. Young Jack's mind would have no doubt been blown to find out he would one day portray Bowser in Super Mario Bros. He also voices Claptrap in the recent adaptation of Borderlands, although that one didn't turn out quite as well.
Among the 90s time capsule games Rudd plays in this commercial is Super Play Action Football. Yes kids, there was once a time when multiple companies could make football games. But in 1992, the writing was already on the wall. One of the reasons Super Play Action Football didn't do as well was this young up-and-coming franchise called Madden NFL.
The Super Nintendo was the first game console I purchased with my own hard-earned money. We had such good times. Even better for nostalgia purposes, I purchased it at the local Toys R' Us. It was just one of the things in the town where I grew up that isn't there anymore. But I still have all the fond memories of it, my Super Nintendo, and the Play Action football franchise.
