When NBA 2K25 revealed its initial ratings for Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, it gave them both a 90 overall. The rabid fanbases for both players weren't having it. After a stretch in which Clark scorched the league and led her Indiana Fever to the playoffs, NBA 2K25 broke the tie.

Clark is a 91 at launch, one point ahead of Reese. Clark averaged 24.6 points, nine rebounds and five assists per game over her last seven games since the ratings reveal. During her campaign she posted the first WNBA rookie triple-double, broke the league's record for most assists in a game and has helped the Fever secure their first playoff berth in eight seasons. Those are the results you want from your no. 1 pick.

Reese was also unbelievable this season. She broke the WNBA's single season rebound record, which was previously held by another former LSU Tiger, Sylvia Fowles. Full disclosure: I attended LSU - Shreveport. Reese also broke the record for most double-doubles and most rebounds for a rookie.

This pair has been compared to Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, who entered the NBA at the same time and are credited with saving the league. I still remember when NBA playoff games aired on tape delay. So does NBA 2K25, as the game has "era" filters that replicate how grainy those videos were.

After one season of Clark and Reese, the comparisons hold a lot of weight. But I do hope fans can appreciate what both of these young women are doing without constantly feeling the need to compare them to each other or anybody else.
