One aspect of 2024's sports games that probably isn't getting talked about enough is commentary. We're not that far away from the days when the commentators didn't seem to know what a video game was, and their wooden commentary reflected as much. Now we games such as College Football 25 that have separate commentary teams for important games.

NBA 2K25 has announced some new additions to a team that was already really good. NBA Insider Shams Charania will handle 2K25's rumor mill. He'll break trade news, provide commentary alongside Kevin Harlan, and appear in the game's social media.

This next one is really cool. NBA 2K25's historical feature this year is the "Steph Era." To truly summon the spirit of the Golden State Warriors' iconic run, NBA 2K has added Matt Hurwitz, the team's PA announcer. The mission here is for players to feel like they're in Oracle Arena as the Splash Bros. are rewriting all the NBA's shooting records.

Stan Van Gundy has done it all in the NBA: coach, team president, broadcaster, and now NBA 2K commentator. He'll be bringing expert analysis from his multiple NBA roles to an already stacked commentary team.

2K already boasted the likes of Doris Burke, Clark Kellogg, and of course, the "czar of the telestrator" Mike Fratello. The industry standard for in-game commentary is growing by leaps and bounds. Most sports games are adding multiple teams because that's what happens in real life.

It just feels natural to hear the voices that call the games doing their thing while our virtual athletes shine. In Madden 25's Superstar Mode, I heard former NFL stars bantering back and forth about whether my rookie QB was the real deal. Oh, that guy thinks I'm trash? Wait until he sees me torch the Chiefs for 300 yards on Sunday!

These pickups on commentary show a commitment from 2K to make the game feel like a larger-than-life spectacle.
