FC 25 will have a professional foul move
By Brian Allen
Fouls are a part of the beautiful game, especially when a player is on their way to a clear shot at the goal. FC 25 will have a professional foul, a move in which the defender purposefully grabs an opposing player's jersey to send them to the ground.
The defender will earn an obvious yellow card, but stop an opponent from scoring an easy goal. The move is done by pressing RT and A on Xbox, or R2 and X on PlayStation. Previous games in the series have allowed players to commit fouls that would probably earn a card, such as a sliding tackle from behind. But sometimes the ref might miss it, or the offensive player might escape the tackle and score anyway.
This is an opportunity for the defender to acknowledge the runner's gotten past them, and use a well-known soccer tactic to stop them. The downside is a guaranteed yellow card, or red if it is the second time a player has done it. But the alternative is an easy goal. Professional fouls are important part of the real game, so they belong in FC 25.
One of the new game modes introduced in FC 25 is Rush, a 5vs5 mode that is more arcade-like. It handles cards a little differently since there are only five players. Egregious fouls earn players a blue card, which removes them from the pitch for 60 seconds but they will always return.
A whole minute is a long time to play shorthanded, however. Professional fouls will be an automatic blue card in Rush. How good do you think your squad is? Teams with a big enough skill gap between them and their opponents will absolutely make use of this. I'm fine with it. If you can hold off the other team while down a player you were always going to win.
