Fallout 4 Takes Game Of The Year At DICE Awards

Last night was the 19th annual DICE Awards, preseted by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. The DICE Awards honored exceptional games from 2015 in a number of categories, with the highest honor being Game of the Year. This year, that lofty title went to Fallout 4, along with several other awards, as Polygon reports.

The Witcher 3 and Ori and the Blind Forest both walked away with several significant victories. The Witcher 3 took Outstanding Achievement in Story, Outstanding Technical Achievement, and Outstanding Achievement in Game Design. Ori rightfully won Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition, Outstanding Achievement in Animation, and Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction. Rocket League also took three awards, as Sports Game of the Year, DICE Sprite Award, and Outstanding Achievement in Online Gameplay.

While a few other titles appeared in the listings, those four games above essentially represent the winners. There’s not a lot of variety in this year’s DICE Award winners, and only one Nintendo title in the whole bunch. You can take that either as the voters having a narrow view of the industry, or simply that there weren’t many outstanding games last year.

Finally, it’s certainly worth mentioning the due honor paid to Satoru Iwata last night, as he was awarded posthumously a Lifetime Achievement Award for the incredible work he did for the industry. The award was accepted by Reggie Fils-Aimé, who gave a heart-warming speech about his old friend’s good humor and kindness, complete with a silly anecdote. You can watch the excerpt here:
