Legendary Developer Warren Spector Returning To Games Development
By Alex Avard
He’ll be working on System Shock 3.
Warren Spector – the man who helped to bring us Deus Ex, System Shock and *AHEM* Epic Mickey – will be returning to the world of games development, after three years as a University of Texas professor.
OtherSide Entertainment announced today that Spector will be joining their company as a full-time studio director. OtherSide is a brand new game studio devoted to rebooting classic game franchises, set up by members of the original team behind Thief and System Shock, . The company is currently working on a reboot to the Underwolrd series, Underworld Ascendent, as well as a brand new sequel to System Shock 2.
In a statement made to Gamesindustrybiz, Spector said “when the opportunity [came] to have a bigger role in bringing Underworld Ascendant to life, as well as playing in the System Shock universe once again, helping to bring these games to a 21st century audience, I just couldn’t say no. Working on System Shock was one of the most fulfilling things I’ve done in my career and it’s hard to describe how much I’m looking forward to sharing with players what SHODAN has been up to since the last game was released.”
Spector is known as one of the original frontiersmen for bringing choice and enhanced player agency to video games, and was previously involved with OtherSide as a creative advisor in a more informal capacity. It’s good to have you back, Warren.
