Morning DLC: Video Game News & Rumors 1/26/2016

"You might have seen a report this morning that claims that Destiny will be getting a new form of microtransaction. If you’re worried about Bungie and Activision charging for heavy ammo synth, you can rest easy.We reached out to Activision, who was quick to dismiss VG 24/7’s report from a single source as false. “We’re not doing that,” a representative told us via email."

Game Informer

That’s great news for Destiny fans! The last thing Bungie needs is another story about how mired their upcoming video game projects are, especially considering that Destiny 2 won’t be coming out this year anymore. I’m sure we’ll see egregious microtransactions in a full priced game in the future but, for now, paid ammo drops are not making an appearance any time soon.

"The CW has picked up the third season of Machinima’s eSports documentary series “Chasing the Cup” about players facing off in a “Mortal Kombat X” tournament — marking the first TV deal for the YouTube-focused digital studio.CW will distribute the first five episodes of “Mortal Kombat X: Machinima’s Chasing the Cup” online at CW Seed. The finale, covering the championship of the ESL Mortal Kombat X Pro League Finals with contestants battling for $100,000 in prize money, will air on the CW Network as a one-hour primetime special on Monday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m. ET/PT."

As more and more television companies try to capture the eSports audience, the better, I say. How exactly it will translate to the CW’s audience remains a mystery, as there are no low-key superheroes, vampires or secret lives of American teenagers on display here.

"So lets get started: As everybody knows, on May 6, 2013, Disney and EA announced that EA will hold exclusive rights to make Star Wars video games for the next several years. We got Star Wars Battlefront last year and we get Viscerals SW-RPG this year. So.. 2017 needs a game as well of course. This game will be revealed NOW and HERE.Lets make it short: The game will be ‘Star Wars: Imperial Commando’. The sequel to 2005s clone trooper shooter. It will not be called “Star Wars: Republic Commando 2” or “Star Wars: Order 66” as some people asumed several years ago."

As interesting as it would be for a new Star Wars Commando game to be released, I severely doubt several factors involved in this “rumor.” First off, the game will be supposedly launching on PC, PS4, Xbox One and the Nintendo NX. EA has not typically supported Nintendo unless they’ve proven success in hardware sales numbers, with an infamous lack of Wii U support. Bringing Imperial Commando in November 2017, which may be the launch window of the NX console, seems wishlist material. Plus, it supposes Visceral’s Star Wars game comes out this year. Pretty false, but interesting rumor!
