Kojima’s Been Visiting All Of PlayStation’s First-Party Studios
By Alex Avard
He’s been road-tripping California with PS4 architect Mark Cerny.
About a week ago, Mark Cerny conspicuously created a twitter account. This is significant in itself; after all, this is the man responsible for bringing us the PlayStation 4, Crash Bandicoot and *ahem* Knack.
It soon became clear, however, that Cerny had clearly made himself a twitter account to publicize a road-trip with Hideo Kojima himself. This came at a surprise to the rest of us, who had no idea that the man behind Metal Gear was even planning such a venture.
Through a number of tweets and photos, Cerny and Kojima’s twitter account showed the pair visiting, among other places, Sucker Punch, Naughty Dog and SCEA headquarters in San Francisco. Kojima himself explained the trip as a search “for the newest tech”, presumably to inspire the development of his first game with his new first-party studio, Kojima Productions.
The partnership between Kojima and PlayStation was announced last month, following a bitter and still-unclear feud between the video game auteur and his previous employer, Konami. We have been given few details about Kojima’s next game, but we do know that it will be a completely new IP, to the disappointment of Silent Hills fans.
Mark Cerny only made his twitter account last week, but already has over 20,000 followers, which is a nice reflection of the fan fervour surrounding Hideo Kojima and his future plans. We wish Kojima the best of luck, and can’t wait to see what crazy virtual world he takes us to next, now that he’s free of the corporate struggles that have been defining his career of late.
