Original Psychonauts On Its Way To PS4

Since its release in 2005, we didn’t really hear much about Psychonauts. The successful platformer was well-received, and then…nothing. So for fans of the series, it’s pretty exciting when ten years later we suddenly hear about a sequel, Psychonauts 2, which reached its crowdfunding goal of $3.3 million a few days ago. The campaign, successfully funded, will result hopefully in a 2018 release, so that’s a long time to wait. Fortunately, there’s something to tide us over in the meantime.

Smartly, Double Fine is re-releasing the original Psychonauts on the PS4, according to a post on the official PlayStation blog. The game was made for the PS2, so it will receive some graphical updates to appropriately work on the console, but will otherwise be the same title you loved from ’05. The game will be out sometime this spring, hopefully upping the buzz for Psychonauts 2 well ahead of its projected release date.

Psychonauts follows the story of Razputin, who runs away from summer camp to join the Psychonauts, international psychic secret agents. He learns to dive into the minds of those around him to help them fight their personal demons, befriending them as he tries to save their training facility.

Sounds like we’ll be seeing a lot of Razputin and his Psychonaut friends in the next few years! We can also look forward to Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin sometime in 2016, exclusively for PlayStation VR.
