First announced at E3 this year, we were all charmed by Unravel. It’s an adorable platformer where you play as Yarny, a strange, red, yarn creature who uses his yarn body and trailing string to overcome obstacles in a gorgeous world full of objects much bigger than himself. The charm of the character design and promise of interesting gameplay has us all eagerly awaiting a release date, which we now have. EA has set February 9th as the start of Yarny’s adventure on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC. They also presented a splendid new story trailer. Take a look:
Yarny’s goal is to discover and reconnect a family’s lost memories as he journeys through various outdoor environments. In the trailer, we see him exploring both natural and man-made areas, and use various object he encounters to his advantage (I love the part where he flies on the plastic bag!). The older woman in the opening and closing smiling tenderly at a photograph indicates that this game is going to be a real tear-jerker, in addition to all the fun physics mechanics we can hope for.
Unravel will release worldwide on February 9th for $19.99. If you’re an EA Access Member on Xbox One, you’ll get to play the game a bit early, as well as purchase it for 10% off.
