The 50 Best Star Wars Games Of All Time
By Fraser G.
#2 – Star Wars: TIE Fighter
Developer: LucasArts
Publisher: LucasArts
Release Date: 1994
While this was only the second of four games in the X-Wing/TIE Fighter series of flight combat sims, TIE Fighter was the very best of the lot, merging the mechanics of the highly-popular X-Wing with an improved targeting system, upgraded graphics, and smarter AI.
Allowing players to assume the role of an Imperial pilot between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi, the game’s unique story remains the only Star Wars game to date that takes place purely from an Empire perspective, while also emitting the traditional Star Wars title crawl in favor of a modified Imperial March opening.
TIE Fighter was released to great acclaim, winning a number of awards for Game Of The Year in 1994. The game was finally released in digital format last year, with updates to allow the game to run on modern PCs.
