#13 – Star Wars Episode I: Racer

Developer: LucasArts

Publisher: LucasArts, Nintendo

Release Date: April 30, 1999

Star Wars Episode I: Racer arrived as the inevitable tie-in to the popular sport of Podracing as seen in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Episode I: Racer was a thrilling, fast-paced racing game that remains popular to this day.

Featured Podracing across a variety of tournaments, the game included a wealth of characters including young Anakin Skywalker and his arch-rival Sebulba, while players could unlock more parts for their pod as they progressed through the game, as well as new tracks and racers.

Star Wars Episode I: Racer was excellent fun, featuring smooth, exciting racing mechanics, authentic audio, and longevity via the game’s multiplayer feature. The game was converted into an arcade title at the start of the 2000’s, emerging as a fantastic and immersive experience for arcade goers. If you ask me, we’re about due for an HD reboot of this much-loved classic.
