#20 – Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Developer: LucasArts, Krome Studios

Publisher: LucasArts

Release Date: September 16, 2008

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was an unexpected surprise when it burst on the scene in 2008. With players assuming the role of Darth Vader’s apprentice: Starkiller, the game told the story of a protagonist who slowly begins to see the error of his ways as he is tempted away from the dark side.

The game featured a unique way of implementing Jedi powers, combined with a compelling story and excellent graphics. This ambitious take on the Star Wars brand was a breath of fresh air, emerging as the fastest-selling Star Wars game of all time at release.

It wasn’t too highly praised by critics, however. Many criticized the game’s repetitive gameplay and over-reliance on quick time events, as well as numerous targeting issues. Despite this, The Force Unleashed was an incredible success, and an important milestone in the history of Star Wars games.
