13 – Pokemon Emerald (Game Boy Advance)

Another of the “enhanced remakes” that was good largely because of the glory of its predecessors, Pokemon Emerald added a handful of new features and quirks to Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire that made it worth picking up, even if you already owned one of the other Gen 3 titles. Pokemon from Gen 2 appeared in the endgame to aid in Pokedex completion (though it was still impossible until FireRed/LeafGreen made their debut) and the plot was adjusted to balance Groudon and Kyogre’s roles, bringing the green dragon Rayquaza to a place of prominence. Best of all was the Battle Frontier, a tournament available after defeating the Elite Four including the Battle Tower from Pokemon Crystal and six other unique battling challenges, with prizes available for success. The Battle Frontier remains one of the best battling challenges available in the Pokemon games, and its exclusion from Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire remains a sore spot for fans of Emerald.

Oh, and the Pokemon Emerald protagonist has a cute green bandana, too!
