34 – Pokemon Shuffle (Nintendo 3DS)

Pokemon Shuffle is a freemium 3DS puzzle title along the same lines as Candy Crush or Bejeweled where a player must line up three matching Pokemon tiles in a row to clear them, doing “damage” to wild Pokemon so that they may be caught. Each Pokemon has a special ability that can transform gameplay in some way, from removing certain tiles to doing more damage. As with all freemium games, Pokemon Shuffle can only be played a limited amount of time before it starts to cost real money, and you can also shell out dollars for items to clear more tiles, or give your Pokemon more moves.

It’s a freemium, Pokemon-themed tile-clearing game with some gimmicks thrown in. There’s nothing really brilliant about it, but that’s okay. It doesn’t need to be brilliant to be silly and fun and at least partially free. Perhaps it’s a bit better suited to mobile, but it’s still nice to have a title like Pokemon Shuffle on the 3DS.
