Ronda Rousey Joins EA Sports Cover Athlete Curse Club
Rory McIlroy
2015 was supposed to be ‘the year’ where he proved to become the next Tiger Woods. He took the more symbolic victories in that notion, replacing Tiger Woods as the named cover athlete for EA Sports PGA Tour. Just about a week before the game launched, Rory McIlroy ruptured an ankle ligament playing soccer, managing to reveal himself as more fragile than the superstars that play soccer at the highest level professionally.
Thankfully for him, McIlroy would return to the PGA Tour roughly seven weeks later, but it didn’t come without a cost. Rory is now just the #3 golfer in the world, behind Jordan Spieth and Jason Day. The 2015 season saw him win zero of the four major tournaments; a let down after winning both the PGA Championship and The Open Championships in 2014. Furthermore, Rory McIlroy PGA Tour was panned by critics, achieving a Metacritic of 61 and a User Score of 3.1/10 (as of press time). Who knows if EA Sports goes back to using McIlroy next year?
Now, to show that the curse is relevant to UFC…
