The Caps finished in third position in this tough division, and it was Nicklas Bäckström who led the team in points this year with 69. Alexander Ovechkin was the top goalscorer (35), while Bäckström and Niskanen shared the team’s top assists with 43 assists each.

Evgeny Kuznetsov had an excellent second season with the Caps, scoring 20 goals and making 31 assists. In defense, the aforementioned Niskanen, ex-Islander Židlický, and Carlson, made over 20 assists each.

Braden Holtby was the man between the pipes for the majority of the year and he posted another career best with a GAA of 2.110 and a SV% of .930, as the Capitals eased into the playoffs.
