Colorado Avalanche

The Avalanche just barely missed out on the playoffs, despite an improved season in which they finished 6 points behind the St. Louis Blues in the Central Division. Erik Johnson was the standout player for Colorado this year, grabbing 43 assists on his way to a 52 point total. Top goalscorer duties went to Nathan MacKinnon, who finished with a respectable 26 goals.

Gabriel Landeskog had a fairly good season with 19 goals and 24 assists, while Jarome Iginla also broke the 20 goal mark. Matt Duchene was nowhere to be seen within the points leaders, and Blake Comeau was also unable to add much firepower to the Avalanche’s offense.

Varlamov was the man between the pipes for the majority of the year, finishing with a GAA of 2.5 – very similar to last year. Both backup goaltenders fared poorly when called upon, and Varlamov was forced to play 70 out of 82 games.
