Round Two
St Louis Blues v Nashville Predators – St Louis win the series 4-3
St Louis took an early 2-0 lead, thanks to a hatful of goals from Berglund and Steen. However, Nashville fought back, and despite falling to a 3-1 deficit in the series, they won their next two games to take this tie to a deciding game seven. Nashville put up a valiant effort, but fell short at the final hurdle as St Louis advanced to the Western Conference Finals. Berglund added six more points to his tally in this series, and Steen was a key player for the Blues throughout, contributing with seven points. Mike Fisher was the key man for Nashville, with three goals and two assists, but could not save Nashville from a playoff exit.
Calgary Flames v Winnipeg Jets – Winnipeg win the series 4-2
After a convincing performance in the previous round, Winnipeg flew out of the gates, taking games one, two and three, leaving Calgary with a mammoth task ahead of them. Calgary brought the series back to 3-2, but there was to be no historic comeback, as Winnipeg wrapped it up at 4-2, and advanced to the Western Conference Final. Brian Little finished with nine assists and two goals as he was the star for the Jets once again. Blake Wheeler took eight points for the Jets and Michael Frolík also added five goals. Calgary barely had a chance to get going, as Hudler finished as top scorer for the Flames, with just four points.
Montreal Canadiens v Tampa Bay Lightning – Tampa Bay win the series 4-2
Montreal crashed and burned in round two, after such a successful start to their playoff journey previously. Tampa Bay took a 3-0 lead, before Montreal staged a mini revival, which was too little, too late, for the Canadiens. Tampa took game six to win the series and move on to the Eastern Conference Finals. Steven Stamkos was once again the MVP for Tampa, scoring four and assisting four. Drouin also contributed to Tampa’s success with five points of his own. Max Pacioretty was unable to find the same form which he had shown in the first round, only managing to contribute with two points for Montreal in this series, as the Canadiens were eliminated from the playoffs.
Washington Capitals v Pittsburgh Penguins – Washington win the series 4-1
Washington found some momentum early on, taking an early 2-0 lead against the Penguins, before Pittsburgh brought the score back to 2-1. Two wins on the bounce for the Capitals wrapped up the win, and took Washington to the Eastern Conference Finals. As expected, Ovechkin and Bäckström were the top two point scorers of this one, racking up seven and five points respectively. Just two goals for Super Sid though, as Pittsburgh were unable to settle into their usual rhythm.
