San Diego Padres

Even down an Andrew Cashner, the Padres pitched fairly well. It’s a shame Brandon Morrow only pitched up to his potential in that pitcher’s park, as his 3.44 ERA and respectable 1.20 WHIP kept him going throughout the year. Alas, the Padres saw their inevitable lack of playoff spot and started to rebuild, with Ian Kennedy, Robbie Erlin, Art Hoffman and Wei Chung Wang remaining as the rotation. Not a lot of strikeouts, a peppering of walks and an unmatched offense kept the Padres out of contention, even though Joaquin Benoit proved to be a reliable closer at 0.92 WHIP and 1.65 ERA.

Wil Myers turned some heads in his first year with his new National League club, going with 29 home runs, 82 RBI, 12 stolen bases and owning a .306/.372/.484 slash line. He was the only new outfielder who stayed with the club, however, as both Matt Kemp and Justin Upton were traded elsewhere. Alexi Amarista, Will Middlebrooks, Jedd Gyorko and Yangervis Solarte did not pick up the slack, performing poorly than expected. Even though Petco Park’s dimensions have been brought in to improve the game’s offense at the stadium, the 2015 MLB season was not having it for the Padres.
