Toronto Blue Jays

It looks like their playoff-free seasons streak will continue for one more year, as the Blue Jays could not get a full season of competent play done. The young guns showed promise, though, with Aaron Sanchez’s 2.93 ERA, 181 K, 21 Quality Start season leading the way. The rest of the pitching staff played just a tad better than average, with a team-wide 3.90 ERA for starters. Mark Buehrle’s age finally caught up with him, though, with a team-low 4.40 ERA and his first season in the big leagues where he didn’t pitch more than 200 innings. The bullpen worries should vanish, too, led by a Brett Cecil/Delabar tandem throughout the year.

Offensively, the Blue Jays made a bunch of head-scratching moves. First off, Jose Bautista was traded to the Reds for Homer Bailey, but through a bunch of maneuvers, got Evan Longoria from the Dodgers (!) for Jose Reyes. What a wonderful world we live in. Edwin Encarnacion stayed as our constant, bringing out the parrot 36 times. Josh Donaldson also held down the fort with 32 mashers of his own, a strong defensive showing and a team-leading .839 OPS. Elvis Andrus and Justin Upton also got traded to the team for the likes of Marcus Stroman and Devon Travis (plus prospects). Somehow, I don’t think this will happen in the actual 2015 MLB season for the Jays.
