Arizona Diamondbacks

Who would have thought the Diamondbacks would have made the playoffs? Despite going into the real-life 2015 MLB season with negative projected value at catching, their pitching was the real let down. Spotty injuries decimated the pitching staff, having to lean on Patrick Corbin and his 4.49 ERA, Jeremy Hellickson and his 3.75 ERA and Josh Collmenter and his sparkling 3.05 ERA. Strikeouts left batters avoiding contact, which saved the team’s defense. Plus, no starter gave up more than 21 home runs, which came at a premium in this simulated projection for all of baseball.

It was thanks to Paul Goldschmidt (aka the whitest guy living in sunny Arizona) who kept the Diamondbacks in the playoff hunt, as his batting stats were amazing. 195 hits counted for a .324/.413/.625/1.037 slash line, 376 total bases, 85 walks, 42 home runs, 101 RBI, 15 stolen bases, 6 triples and 43 doubles. It’s like he’s playing in Rookie difficulty while others are struggling with All-Star! He certainly made up for the likes of A.J. Pollock, David Peralta, Cliff Pennington and Gerald Laird, while Mark Trumbo at 24 HR, 73 RBI, .774 OPS and .460 slugging percentage held his own.
