Editor’s Note: Nintendo executives have already confirmed that they have been planning the future of the Metroid series, for both 2D and 3D titles, this past June at E3. However, the leap from internal discussions to teaser/reveal is a mighty one, so nothing is for certain.
A recent Twitter post shows a screenshot apparently from the Nintendo of America website that gives away some startling information…about a potential Metroid 3DS game! Take a look:
See that part there about Metroid? Multiple people are confirming they’ve seen it, but it doesn’t seem to be there now and could very easily be a faked screenshot, or a typo, or anything else. The page in question currently shows the same text, but a different image and different games listed.
We haven’t had a Metroid game since Other M, and of course there’s been tons of rumors flying around. The series is successful, so it’s far from dead, there’s just been no word on the next step yet. Nintendo proved in its Direct this morning, and in their other recent announcements, that they still have plenty of surprises up their sleeves. Hopefully the rumor turns out to be true, and we see either Metroid 3DS or at least another Metroid game of some kind this generation.
Thanks to @mario9j for the initial tip on this.
