GameSided Top 10 Game of the Year 2014
6 – Mario Kart 8 (32 points)
While we start to see the annualization of racing games from the likes of the Forza series, Mario Kart takes its time (every time) to try to get it just right. Never has that notion been more clear than with Mario Kart 8. Six years between console iterations, we see a number of improvements, including the variety of karts, plethora of stages and an impressive cast of characters.
With ongoing DLC to show love for those outside of the Mario universe, Mario Kart 8 is just pure fun. Playing online or offline rarely sees a difference in gameplay quality, as it truly drives home a title that caters to both the single player and the multiplayer atmosphere.
In his review for our mother site, FanSided, Michael wrote: “Ultimately, Mario Kart 8 is a game that will definitely help Nintendo sell a few more Wii Us to families. It’s a game that brings back all of the fun from the previous versions, and improves upon it in major ways. From the zero-gravity sections of the tracks to the new items and characters, Mario Kart 8 is a title that should no doubt help the Wii U rebound from the current struggles.”
