Update: According to a statement by Ubisoft sent to several gaming sites including GameInformer, the leaks are authentic, but were just that–leaks, and were not intended. The reveal was scheduled for a later date.

In a recent reveal video shown to Kotaku, it appears that Ubisoft is already deep into development of next year’s entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. This one will take place in Victorian London, and is currently being called Assassin’s Creed Victory. It is currently scheduled to release in Fall of 2015, continuing the annual release schedule of Assassin’s Creed games, though it sounds like it will be the only main entry in the series that year. It will be released, allegedly, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Assassin’s Creed: Victory, is being headed up by Ubisoft Quebec instead of Montreal, indicating that it may have been in the works for quite some time while Montreal was busy leading previous games. It seems to use same the version of Anvil, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed engine, that was used in Unity.

Reporters from Kotaku spoke to sources closely involved with the project, and viewed a 7-minute gameplay demo of Victory, and were impressed by its graphics quality, which Jason Schreier says in his article “could pass for an E3 presentation…although it may not represent what the final game looks like.”

The screenshots look beautiful, and the storyline played out in the video includes overviews of London, an Assassin accepting an assignment from a masked woman trying to stop a Templar trafficker of young girls, and an epic battle on top of a carriage. The assassin changes outfits partway through, indicating that disguise may play an important role in the game, and sidequests seem remain as prevalent as always.

Overall, the game looks and sounds nice, but given the over-hyped nature of buggy Unity and lackluster direction of the plot these last few days, it’s anyone’s guess whether Ubisoft will be able to recover the series, no matter how good it looks.
