Steam UK Won’t Offer Ubisoft’s Three Biggest 2014 Games

Ubisoft has just confirmed that its three biggest 2014 titles: Far Cry 4, The Crew, and Assassin’s Creed: Unity will not be available through Steam UK, GameSpot reports.

The games are still purchasable for UK gamers on PC, but must be obtained through UPlay, Ubisoft’s own service for providing PC content. In an interview with PCGamesN, Ubisoft explained:

"We’ve been in discussions with Valve about Assassin’s Creed Unity but for the time being the game is not available via Steam in the UK. In the meantime, UK customers wishing to purchase the game digitally can do so by visiting the Uplay store, our retail partners or other digital distributors."

Speculation is that the split has something to do with pricing or royalties, and public response to the removal has been overwhelmingly negative. Furthermore, it seems that the titles are no longer visible in the US Steam Store either, furthering rumors that Ubisoft is gradually moving away from Steam on more accounts than just this one. No word on whether their removal from the US Steam is an accident, a temporary condition, or a permanent decision–we’ll have more as information becomes available.
