Nintendo Apologizes: Gamecube Controller Adapter Only Works On Smash

Yesterday, we reported that Nintendo’s GameCube Controller Adapter would not only work with Super Smash Bros. for the WiiU, but also for any games compatible with the Wii Classic Controller, Wii Classic Controller Pro or Wii U Pro Controller. This information originated in the Nintendo UK Online Store, and Nintendo UK has since retracted that statement, Eurogamer reports.

A Nintendo UK spokesperson stated the following:

"The GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U is compatible with Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U specifically – it is not compatible with any other Wii U software.The adapter is also not compatible with Wii and we apologize for any confusion."

This news just makes the Smash Bros bundle that much more appealing to hardcore Smash fans, and the individual hardware less appealing to everyone else. Maybe the positive response to the adapter working on multiple games will give Nintendo the hint? As interesting as the Wii Remote can be, sometimes you just want an old-fashioned controller in your hands.
