Mythic Entertainment Studio Shut Down By EA

facebooktwitterreddit

And another company bites the dust. Mythic Entertainment, creator of beloved Warhammer Online and reviled mobile remake of Dungeon Keeper, has been reported by Kotaku that they will be closing up shop.

The official statement from EA:

"We are closing the EA Mythic location in Fairfax, Virginia, as we concentrate mobile development in our other studio locations. We are working with all impacted employees to provide assistance in finding new opportunities, either within EA or with other companies via an upcoming job fair."

While it truly is unfortunate for anyone to lose their jobs (especially after receiving public funding), it does come after the release of a terrible game riddled with microtransactions and a flawed rating system on mobile app stores. Although, seeing how Mythic Entertainment is more renown for creating online games like Dark Age of Camelot and Darkness Falls, there are doubts that the company wanted anything to do with mobile gaming in the first place. For EA to specifically mention concentration of mobile gaming within other studio locations, the creative possibilities for Mythic Entertainment leading up to this announcement seemed nil.

Hopefully, the developers and staff can find more constructive and creative work somewhere else within EA or at another company. It’s the very least that EA could do to provide a job fair, as well. Just like with Irrational Games, the time to move on comes sooner or later, and helping the outgoing staff find new work just seems like the right thing to do.
