Halo 5: Guardians To Release Fall 2015
By Nick Tylwalk
The next Halo game has been announced, but gamers are going to have to wait more than a year before they’ll get to play it on the Xbox One.
Halo 5: Guardians is the official title of the next installment in Microsoft’s most famous exclusive franchise, the first entry in the regular series to receive a subtitle. It will hit the Xbox One in fall 2015, with no word yet on whether it will get an Xbox 360 release as well — though with that console getting another 18 months or so older in the meantime, it’s certainly less likely.
A press release from 343 Industries General Manager Bonnie Ross said the game will be “a bigger effort than Halo 4,” and that the studio, “Invested a huge effort in retooling our tech to take full advantage of the Xbox One’s hardware and ecosystem to create worlds and experiences worthy of next-gen.” That, too, makes it sound as if the 360 might be out of luck.
Microsoft has been saying all along that its E3 presentation would focus heavily on games, and Ross also suggested that we’ll hear more about Halo 5 there. The game’s release date will also coincide with the debut of the Halo TV series, which is being produced by Steven Spielberg.
