Rumor: From Software, SCE Japan Developing ‘Project Beast’ For PS4
It started as a random posting on 4chan’s /v/ board (imageboard focused on video games, mostly), but has now extended to NeoGAF and media outlets. An unknown user posted a thread, revealing several screenshots for a game named Project Beast that is rumored to be developed by From Software and SCE Japan. From what has been leaked, it seems like a reimagining or a spiritual successor to Demon’s Souls, which was also co-developed by From Software and SCE Japan.
Project Beast appears to be set in an alternate near-past, possibly in the 19th or early 20th century, due to the fact that the playable character is shown with both a magical sword and a shotgun. However, an additional screenshot highlights what looks to be a high-definition fog gate, indicating that the game may be an addition to the Souls series.
Everything else about Project Beast seems to be guesswork, especially considering that E3 2014 is just over a month away, however a NeoGAF poster who has been confirmed by the moderation team as a Sony employee (while in discussion about the next entry in the Souls series) mentioned in January that, “It will be a whole different beast.” In addition to posts back in June 2013 about how Tokyo Game Show, “Will be a Beast of a show,” (with ‘Beast’ capitalized) it appears as though he was talking about Project Beast, and that it has been in known development for quite some time.
Setting the newest (possible) Souls game closer to the present seems to provide an alternate look to the series, one that will look to generate excitement as both a legitimate PS4 exclusive and as a more graphically-inclined Souls game. Hopefully we’ll hear more about the game at E3 2014 this coming June.
