Sony Online Entertainment MMO’s Bundled Into All Access Membership

Sony Online Entertainment is doing something quite drastic when it comes to membership pricing for their MMO games; they’re bundling access to all memberships into one price. In a Sony forum post (acting as an FAQ), Sony has detailed their plans to allow access to current and future eligible Sony Online Entertainment games for the price of $14.99/month.

Right now, a membership will get you access to EverQuest, EverQuest II, DC Universe Online PC, PlanetSide 2 PC and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, as well as access to the upcoming EverQuest Next, Landmark and H1Z1. Added savings per month will be included to those who subscribe to a Sony Online Entertainment All Access membership for 3, 6 and 12 months at a time.

As somebody who left the paid subscription MMO realm some years ago after getting out of World of Warcraft, it’s a brilliant move by Sony to entice more people to stay with their services. With the amount of time spent on MMO gaming declining as MOBA gameplay rises, no doubt there was a need for change when it comes to Sony’s subscription model.

Now it serves as a way to entice players not only to join (or re-join) their game of choice, but will allow it to be easier to jump to another game if it happens to not be as enjoyable at the beginning. It also allows for those who haven’t played any Everquest game before to try them out now ahead of the release of the hotly-anticipated EverQuest Next.

Even though the subscription model seems to be on the outs, this All Access membership idea from Sony Online Entertainment might be just the shot in the arm to keep the payment platform alive. We’ll just have to see how it all plays out.
