Nintendo Announces Super Smash Bros. Invitational, E3 2014 Details Via Mega64

Nintendo has released a promotional video using the Mega64 crew to highlight their plans for the games company at E3 2014, and it is quite comical.

Starring Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime himself, the Mega64 crew devise a “Fils-A-Mech” robot using his likeness to infiltrate Nintendo of America’s offices in order to find out what’s coming from the company for this year’s E3. Through a cavalcade of hilarious misadventures, we learn that Nintendo is planning a few important events.

Super Smash Bros. Invitational

To celebrate the 2014 release of the upcoming Super Smash Bros. title on the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, Nintendo will be holding an invitational tournament for the Wii U version, with 16 invited tournament players on hand to showcase the new game. Taking place live at the Nokia Theater L.A. and broadcast online, fans will have the opportunity to learn more about the game, including characters and their move sets, through observing elite talent doing battle. More information regarding the event to come in the days ahead.

Super Smash Bros. Smash Fest

It won’t be just live broadcasts showing off the upcoming Super Smash Bros. title. At participating Best Buy locations, Nintendo will be allowing fans to play the game at a special booth during E3 2014. It will be the first time the general public will have hands on experience playing the arcade action game, so I would get down to a participating location (details of which coming shortly) early before they open if you want to cut down on wait time in line.

Nintendo Digital Event

For the second year in a row, Nintendo is forgoing holding a staged press conference (like Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft are likely to do) in order to hold a Nintendo Digital Event. Kicking off June 10 at 9 AM PT (12 PM ET), it will act as a special Nintendo Direct event, in which the future of Nintendo and its upcoming announced (and unannounced) titles will be further explored through the magic of live streaming. Whether or not this is a smart move on Nintendo’s behalf is left for another article.

Nintendo Treehouse: Live @ E3

Nintendo will be live-streaming content from their Nintendo booth all throughout the E3 conference hours. The “Product Development” department at Nintendo of America will be on hand to provide live demos and other scripted/unscripted content throughout their stay at E3 2014. My guess is that there will be a schedule of events coming soon, but just to be safe I’d keep a tab open during the entire conference just in case something wild shows up unannounced.

With that, Nintendo is the first console-creating company to fire their first E3 2014 salvo. Now it’s Microsoft and Sony’s turn to get into the E3 announcement action.

You can check out the Mega64 video below for more information (and laughs) about the event.
